Cooking again!

Hmm…

This might actually become a food blog again. Cause I’m a’cookin’!

Really!!!

Look:

This is a salmon dish, inspired by Asha’s Chole

Basically, I fried an onion with ginger, and blended it with a tomato and a tablespoon of tomato sauce.

I then separately fried the fish with green and red peppers, and two sticks of celery. (And I blended some of the veggies, just so kiddo junior eats some of it, at least in the sauce form…)

I added a teaspoon of garam masala and a sprinkle of curry powder (while frying the fish)…

Salt/pepper to taste.

Asha, you are my greatest cooking inspiration! And now you see what I mean by taking ideas from you and twisting them around :-)

And the fish was great. Even the kiddo ate it.

I think life is beginning to show signs of normalcy again…

So... did you add the sauce to the fish once it was done? Or did you pour the sauce and veg on top of the fish?

Looks tasty

Gunfighter:

I fried the fish first a bit, then sprinkled the garam masala and fried a bit longer (half a minute or so), then added the chopped vegetables and the sauce from the blender (I added just a bit -- no more than quarter of a teaspoon -- of curry powder to the sauce in the blender... It's our favourite spice here :-) ). And let it simmer for about 7 minutes (till veggies as tender as desired).

Come to think of it, I also added a bit of water to make it more liquidy, cause the guys over here like to pour things on top of rice. About half a cup of water...

Basically, I've subsituted fish for potatoes, and veggies for chickpeas in Asha's recipe :-)

Vasilisa,
Glad you're up and about. At least you're cooking something. That counts for being a good little mommy.

Look at you Cooky Cookerson! You make such exciting meals. I'm a boring cook. I need to start trying some of your recipes.

Lisa, twisting is quite okay and dish looks fabulous and healthier with fish than adding chole.
Great going,I hope you would post all your experiments and your own dishes as well.I am happy to see you cooking!:))

About

I'm a 29 year old mom of two! A toddler (kiddo one) and a new baby (kiddo junior). I am also the most horrible (as in I barely ever do it) cook that I have met in my life. This blog is a diary of my attempts to feed my hungry growing family

PS: My name is not actually Vasilisa... But I find that honest reporting comes easier when there is a shred of anonymity. (Apparently, posting pics of my sons doesn't count...)

PPS: For those of you wondering where on the planet I am: I'm cosily tacked away in the Torontonian suburbia of the Great White North (Canada).
