not bad, not bad...

Today was a rushed day. But a surprisingly productive one. Obviously I didn’t have to worry about the rice. (I know, this house eats way too much rice, but what can I do? I tried potatoes, buckwheat, you name it… But if there is no rice on the plate, my husband has a miserable “where is my dinner?” face that I just can’t live with…)

So I made an Indian-themed chicken. With tomato/cilantro/celery paste (blended) and curry/garlic/coriander spice mix. It was amazing… (good girl, so proud of you…)

And for myself I made an eggplant/bell peeper/onion dip. I’ve already had about six sandwiches. If I knew it was going to be that addictive, I would’ve stayed with plain lettuce.

And I really want to learn to take better pictures. There's gotta be a trick I don't know. Like a different camera. Or light. Or plates. Something. Maybe herbs? Decorations? I want to know how to take pictures like this (the passionate cook), or like this (dinner for one).

And please don't tell me it's the food (maybe a little, but not much...). Cause these girls can make a boring pumpkin look like the most gorgeous thing in the world...

I think that using plain white plates will help your pictures, as sometimes patterns and such can be distracting. Are you using a digital camera? Take a bunch of pictures from different angles in different lighting, and maybe use contrasting coloured placemats for background. Taking good photos requires more dirty dishes, too.
I'm still working on getting my photos as nice as other peoples, too, but I hope this helps.

harmonia: thanks! the dip WAS suprisingly good :-)

judy: I'm using a digital camera. I also think the plates are too colourful (but they all I have right now). Will probably be buying a couple of new plates soon...

About

I'm a 29 year old mom of two! A toddler (kiddo one) and a new baby (kiddo junior). I am also the most horrible (as in I barely ever do it) cook that I have met in my life. This blog is a diary of my attempts to feed my hungry growing family

PS: My name is not actually Vasilisa... But I find that honest reporting comes easier when there is a shred of anonymity. (Apparently, posting pics of my sons doesn't count...)

PPS: For those of you wondering where on the planet I am: I'm cosily tacked away in the Torontonian suburbia of the Great White North (Canada).
